The Prostate Brachytherapy UK and Ireland Conference 2017

For the fourth consecutive year, we were the platinum sponsor to the Prostate Brachytherapy UK & Ireland Conference 2017, which was hosted by the team at the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital, and held at the Ulster Museum in Belfast on the 19th May.

The UK and Ireland Brachytherapy group was initially set up to help centres developing prostate brachytherapy to improve and retain expertise in every aspect of the treatment. Today, the conference stands as the most important forum for UK and Ireland’s brachytherapists involved in either Low Dose Rate (LDR) or High Dose Rate (HDR) Prostate brachytherapy.

Outstanding attendance

It is encouraging to see that the conference has seen an increased attendance year on year and 2017 was no exception. The programme for the day included an extensive range of relevant scientific content, including sessions on, but not limited to, the Ascende-RT study findings, Monotherapy, ProTECT study, Promis Study and MRI imaging.

With a packed agenda that ran from 9am through to 5.15pm, each hour was filled with educational and industry specific content. The main focus of the meeting was evidence-based decision-making; each speaker produced content that was thought provoking and encouraged open discussions around the current issues, practices and advancements in technology that are affecting prostate brachytherapy.

This year’s impressive line up included a showcase of new developments, including 4D brachytherapy, MRI fusion with Mim Software, biopsy devices and BKmedical.

BXTAccelyon’s invite-only session

The day came to a close with our own invite-only session, where key influencers and representatives from our partner centres were asked to join us in a discussion with key speakers, Dr. Jennifer Uribe, honorary consultant, and Dr Robert Laing. Both Dr Uribe and Dr Laing provided key industry insight on the cost analysis of two stage brachytherapy vs 4D brachytherapy. Much like the rest of the day the session was well received and attended. In addition, we are proud to have been able to introduce Perineologic’s PrecisionPoint™ Transperineal Access System. PrecisionPoint™ is a revolutionary FDA approved medical device for obtaining prostate biopsies, which takes full advantage of the transperineal path to more thoroughly sample all regions of the prostate including those difficult to access with the transrectal approach. More news will follow in coming months!

Overall, it was an extremely successful day and the BXTAccleyon team is proud to have been a platinum sponsor of the conference. And, while the meeting continues to grow with great content, new innovations and products, we would love to see even more of you in attendance next year supporting this key forum.
